I have contacted the MT and WY Dept. of Agriculture for the cattle industry side. It seems both sides are strong in their beliefs and neither is willing to compromise. For me I can sympathize with the cattle industry regarding destruction of livestock, but I also sort of feel the same way I do about those in NJ who whine about the black bear population...it is the animals territory. Yes they were re-introduced and yes it was by the hand of humans they returned, but once before us humans ruined that land or killed every single predator that crossed our path the land was theres.
I am having a hard time forming an opinion I seem to be in the middle somewhere. I think if a wolf has positively caused damage to livestock then the ranchers should have the right to eliminate the animal IF it is on their land, but to kill a wolf just because its a wolf is wrong. That being said I also feel that its mighty kind of the Federal Govt to provide ranchers with all this cheap grazing land so maybe they shouldnt be so quick to wanna haze the Buffalo.
I dunno, this subject is certainly a difficult one and I can see valid concerns on both sides of the argument.
My research should privde more of the answers I am seeking and maybe then I can form a solid opinion one way or the other.
Ummm yeah GH Im not sure what Ive gotten myself into here LOL!!!
