Woke up to a winter wonderland. Snow covered the streets, trees, and landscape. It glistened like someone sprinkled glitter overnight. Yet in a couple hours no one would of known it snowed if they had not been there to see it. At Slough creek we watched 2 black wolves and a grey tend to the den site. Still no sight of elk anywhere, other than at Mammoth. Across from the Lamar we watched as 3 wolves howled to a lone black wolf in the Lamar. The lone wolf began coming towards the 3 wolves but when it got to the river, it decided to turn around and head back up the hills of the the Lamar. The 3 howling wolves headed back off in the direction of the den site. As we headed out for lunch, a Very large brown black bear caused such a bear jam that someone actually sideswiped the ranger vehicle. After lunch we watched a grey yearling playing with bison chips. Who knew one could have so much fun with poo. It was tossing them up in the air, rolling on them, and being quite comical. The wind began to blow the bone chilling air, so we decided to pack it in. On our way in we saw 2 black bears, in different parts of the Soda Butte area. One was wandering a thawed hillside. The other was wading through the snow. A pretty good day I'd say.
