There really are none for day-hiking. I am sure you are aware of the old "if you pack it in, pack it out" rule (including the banana peels, apple cores and peach pits).

Nothing is going to stalk you on a day hike because you smell like beef jerky...except other hungry, unprepared hikers.

Lightweight, high-energy foods are best. Custom GORP mixes always good. And of course, nothing you want that might spill or leak in your pack, and nothing that can spoil (mayo on sandwiches) and make ya sick.
