The concessionaires would be in bad shape though without the foreign workers. They can stay until the end of the season, whereas the Am. students start leaving in August. Usually, the foreign ones are hard workers and don't get fired for drinking, drugs, fighting, etc. The foreign workers get hired through foreign agencies and must pay their own way over here. That is why mid-summer when there are plenty or an overload of employees they do not get enough hours. Toward end of season, when there's a shortage of workers, many want the overtime and work excessive hours and 6 or 7 days @ week and can really pull in the money. Even though most like the chance to see the park, some feel they were misled. Pay is not much more than minimum for a lot of the jobs. Like someone said, if it wasn't for the lure of enjoying the park itself and the outdoors, workers would be disappointed. That's why the seniors come--paid vacations. Seniors are the 2nd largest group of employess, after the college students.

As far as employee relations, I feel it's like any other job...sometimes you get a likeable manager/supervisor and sometimes not. Benefits--none for seasonal workers. A small amount is deducted from paycheck for "medical" insurance, but that's very limited coverage. Dorms--basic. Ours was good, except you did share room with another person and the bathroom with two others from next room. No TV (unless you come every year and are allowed a Dish), no phones, no cell phone reception. Wireless was being installed in dorms, but I don't know if service has improved.

I feel Human Resources has a real problem with getting enough workers, especially at the beginning and end of seasons. Possibly some of it is their fault, but some of it is that the pay, hard work, and structured living doesn't suit a lot of people needing to make a living or college expenses.
