Delaware North as well as Xantera recruit from overseas. The biggest reason is that American students began a pattern of quitting mid-season when they got a wild hair up their keester and would in turn, leave the stores, restaurants and lodges in a real pickle. The foreign kids also tend to put up with a lot more abuse.

I was even told by a couple of kids from Taiwan that they had to stay the entire season, or they wouldn't have enough money to make the trip home. Most do it for the experience, not because they were making any money. It was for the most part, the only chance to visit the U.S.

It used to also be that many, many senior citizens and American students would work in the park, but I've been told that since vendors in the park have changed hands over the past several years, there is less of a positive environment and the new vendors tend to treat employees more like cattle than human beings.

My mom used to work for Hamilton's and loved it. It has everything to do with running the businesses like a family would, rather than a faceless, giant corporation. Sad thing is, I've had many repeat visitors tell me they notice the difference as well and miss the old smiling faces that used to greet them....in English.

And the dorms...well, they remain unchanged for the most part from the 60s. They need some work.
