I would also encourage you to take the kids to visit the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone for a close-up look at representatives of the top of the local food chain. The bears and wolves there cannot, for various reasons, be rehabilitated to the wild. But the facility is very good and the educational value high. (Photo taken there)
