...wildlife do their thing, regardless of who is guiding the tour. You might get very very lucky and see a grizzly bear from the tour van - or from your car - or not at all. Doesn't matter how good the guide is, ya'll are looking from the same road, there are no secret places they can drive to that are better than others.

Wildlife-watching is number 1 for me, too. My major suggestions are to get up at the crack of dawn, lots of critters are most active then. Also plan to stay out well into the evening, since it cools down and the animals tend to be more visible then as well. In between, go visit the geyser basins, LOL!

As sign kids sides of the car to watch for wildlife as you drive along. Also of course whenever you see huge jams of cars, you know you're in the vicinity of interesting wildlife-viewing. The best spots tend to be: 1. Lamar Valley, where you might see wolves, black bears, grizzlies, foxes, and bighorn sheep, and where your chances of seeing coyotes, pronghorn antelope, elk, and bison are near 100%. One kid should keep an eye on the skies for hawks, falcons, and eagles! 2. Hayden Valley, for bison, elk, sometimes wolves, and bald eagles, and white pelicans (in the Yellowstone River), among others; and Oxbow Bend in the Grand Tetons, where you might see everything and anything, but especially moose. Same prime viewing hours apply!
